Nation’s member gets top sports award

Nation member honored for sports excellence

Ty Engle is top quarterback.

Ty Engle, Yavapai-Apache Nation member playing quarterback for the Tuba City High School football team this fall made the Navajo Times 2018 Fall Sports All-Stars. He was recognized in Shiprock, New Mexico at the Phil Thomas Performance Centre on Friday, December 7 according to his mother Patricia Engle who is married to Brent Engle, Jr. of Tuba City (an enrolled member of the Yavapai-Apache Nation).

Brent Jr. is brother to Dr. Melissa Engle Bilagody who is being featured in a story in the Nation’s paper for the December edition of the Nation’s newspaper.

Dr. Bilagody is the principal of Tuba City Junior High School.

Ty is 18 years old and is a senior this year.

Ty’s grandparents are Brent Engle, Sr. and Dorothy Engle both of Tuba City. The senior Engle is also enrolled member of the Yavapai-Apache Nation.

There were a total of 92 nominations and the Navajo Times stated they had a difficult time whittling the list down to 92.

Navajo Nation Council Speaker Lorenzo Bates greeted the All-Stars at the awards event that night.
